2. Fresh Takes on Climate Action Engagement
-
September 26, 2024
This session featured four leading cities showcasing innovative approaches to climate engagement:
-
-
-
- Vancouver (Canada) presented their Climate Justice Field School, which re-imagines power-sharing with communities in implementing climate justice. They emphasized collaboration, sharing power, and building relationships to ensure equitable climate solutions.
- Greve (Denmark), alongside the Danish think tank Concito, shared the DK2020 project, a model for multi-level cooperation in local climate action. This initiative supports all Danish municipalities in developing climate action plans using C40’s Climate Action Planning Framework, originally designed for major global cities. Greve is the first city in Denmark to conduct a municipal citizen’s assembly to plan their mitigation actions.
- Valencia (Spain), the European Green Capital of 2024, highlighted their efforts in creating Community Energy Offices to promote local energy security and sustainability.
- Glasgow (Scotland) partnered with the Village Storytelling Centre to develop a community vision for a just transition. Through storytelling, they engage local communities, ensuring that the shift to a low-carbon economy is fair, inclusive, and community-driven.
