The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) in the United States is proud to announce a new partnership with USDN to offer several programming opportunities in the US in 2024!

With financial support provided by the European Union, GCoM will organize a series of events and training opportunities for US cities. These will include:

  • Three virtual workshops on salient topics related to access to and/or uptake of federal funding, energy efficiency and electrification of mobility, and accelerating action on climate change at the local level
  • 1:1 coaching and technical assistance to pursue federal funding on climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • One in-person workshop during the USDN Annual Meeting in October 2024 in Minneapolis, with targeted financial assistance for selected cities to attend.

Workshops

GCoM will offer four workshops (including a session at the Annual Meeting) between June and October 2024. These will be timely topics focused on accelerating local climate action.

The inaugural workshop in our series of activities will be held on July 11, 10AM CEST,  under the title “Be a CHAMP: Level Up Your Partnerships to Accelerate Climate Action.” This session will introduce CHAMP (the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships for Climate Action) and highlight best practices from cities like Amsterdam (Netherlands), Oslo (Norway), and Dublin (Ireland) on accelerating climate action through multilevel partnerships.

We’ll briefly cover what CHAMP is and why it’s relevant for US cities and hear from Michael Shank of the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance and colleagues from leading cities in Europe on how they are utilizing multilevel partnerships to advance local climate action on business engagement, building materials reuse/circular economy, and reducing emissions.

We’ll also discuss the opportunities to lift up stories of US city successes as part of CHAMP publicity and storytelling, and why doing so might be relevant to implement and finance ambitious climate projects in your city.

 1:1 Coaching and Technical Assistance

USDN and GCoM will offer 1:1 coaching and technical assistance to help cities navigate the federal grants process. These sessions can be used to help you match your project idea to the appropriate grant, develop an internal grants strategy, or provide editing or review of a particular grant application.

These hours will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone.

USDN Annual Meeting Registration Assistance 

GCoM, via funding from the European Union, is generously providing registration assistance to up to 12 cities that are active and compliant with GCoM to attend the USDN Annual Meeting, on October 20 – 23, 2024 at Hilton Hotel Minneapolis, for whom full registration cost would be an insurmountable barrier. 

This funding will be available via rolling application and be supplied in the form of a registration discount code.
